During a morning walk, John heard a groan coming from a nearby frozen river. As he approached, he noticed a young bear cub, probably only a few months old, struggling unsuccessfully against the ice. John didn’t hesitate; he knew he had to act fast to save the little animal.
The ice was thick enough to walk on, but not for the boy, he decided immediately after his assessment. He cautiously walked over to the pup, who was now crying and barking for help.
The pup was trying to chase a rolling ball on the ice and had been frozen in place ever since, John realized as he approached the animal. John quickly scooped the pup up in his arms and headed for the shore where he would be safe.
John had to take extra care to avoid slipping and falling on the dangerous back because he didn’t want to endanger the puppy or himself. The pup was safe when John and the dog were finally beached after what felt like an eternity.
After John gently warmed the pup up in his arms, he soon began happily wagging his tail and licking his face in appreciation. When John called the owner to let them know he had found their pet, they were thrilled. John then took the pup to a nearby animal shelter.
John was praised for his selfless bravery and the pup was adopted by a loving family. From then on, John only cared about making the pup’s life better.
